this is Angela
on december 22 2017, my friend, my partner, my love, Angela died
.
to honor her, i wrote tea time with the reaper. a short story chronicling the nine years and four months Angela and i shared together. from the moment we met, to the moment she died
.
sharing her story, our love story - one that some believe can only be found in pure fiction - led many to a greater desire to live life before it was too late. it also led to something unexpected - people started reaching out. sharing the stories of their loved ones. the circumstances surrounding their deaths, and the ensuing tidal wave those left behind were forced to endure in its wake
.
these conversations led to the tea time with the reaper podcast. a platform for others to openly discuss the personal details of a death close to them - a child, a friend, a hero, a parent, a partner, a sibling - and the aftermath. many for the first time. a collection of the lessons shared in those stories can be found in grim’s after tea desserts
.
with every discussion, every podcast, and every death since Angela, it became clear that modern society does not honor the dead the way it should. they are quickly catalogued, forgotten, and relegated to the past. their lessons - the powerful motivation that their deaths offer - lost to time causing a misalignment of our selves, in the now and in the future
.
that belief is the catalyst for the upcoming nap time with lil’ grimmy - written for readers from nine to ninety. a children’s book that i hope will help people shift their perspective about death and about what is left behind
.
it has also led to something that may prove to be even more helpful, more powerful and more valuable, especially for those battling everything that life and death can bring - the codex. a system of three distinct yet interconnected elements - embodied in timeless geometric archetypes - forged to illuminate a path to acceptance, alignment and authenticity
.
guiding us to remember - death is more than an end
