the codex

  • over a century of ground-breaking work — freud, jung, kubler-ross — has shaped modern mental health

however, every new insight - every chart, diagram, or system - provides mere fragments, snapshots of the human experience. they rarely encompassed its full scope nor its inherent inevitability. and many are inward-looking, keeping people trapped in their heads — the very place many are already drowning

    the codex is different

    .

it is a system of three distinct yet interconnected elements - embodied in timeless geometric archetypes - forged to illuminate a path to acceptance, alignment and authenticity

what is the codex ?

the codex is a map forged in grief and the clear-eyed acceptance that death is the one universal constant. it is not another theory to think about. it is a tangible system — grim’s compass, continuity totem, and sacred chain — that together create a practical framework for navigating overload, fractures, and evolution. simple. unflinching. built to pull you out of your head and into presence

the codex is not a fixed pattern or a program that must be followed in a specific order. it is a set of three interconnected tools, each offering a different kind of insight. some people always start at the top. others move between the elements depending on what feels most relevant in the moment. there is no ‘right way’ to use it

grim's compass

grim’s compass first appeared in grim’s after tea desserts. it was created to give a visual language to the emotional chaos that follows death — the what-ifs, the rage, the numbness — spinning without rhyme or reason

.
at its core, it is death’s unphased stare. a reminder of our mortality that should be used as a north star, pulling you toward truth

.

memento mori - remember that you must die

continuity totem

the continuity totem is the spine of the system. three equal triangles — body at the top, mind in the middle, soul at the base

.
it is a vertical check of congruency. when the flow between them is balanced and unbroken, you are aligned. when something is off, the totem reveals exactly where the fracture lives

.

nosce te ipsum - know thyself

sacred chain

the sacred chain illustrates the mechanics of time and choice. three interlinked rings — past, present, and future — connected, yet the present is where all power lives

.
it is a reminder that time is unbreakable. the past and future should be observed, but every decision and every action must move through the now

.

respice, adspice, prospice - look back, look at the present, look ahead

grim’s compass, the continuity totem, and the sacred chain are designed to work together, but they are not dependent on each other

the compass brings focus to the emotional chaos and mortality of the moment. the totem checks alignment across body, mind, and soul. the chain reminds you that every choice moves through time — past, present, and future. each element can stand on its own and offer some clarity. together they form a cartesian map for life and death.

the codex is simple by design, yet deep in practice

it reveals more the longer you sit with it. for those who want to go deeper into grim’s compass, the continuity totem and the sacred chain, detailed deconstructions of each element can be found here

“years after Angela’s death, the codex was formed to help me stay aligned in my day-to-day life while navigate the never ending road of grief. it is not a divine system. it does not guarantee a more peaceful or purposeful life. it is simply a guide - grim’s compass, the continuity totem, and the sacred chain - which has proven incredibly useful to me. you may find it helpful. you may think it is nonsensical bullshit. that is a choice i leave to you"
