the alignment of self : understanding the continuity totem

the alignment of self : understanding the continuity totem

what happens when the different parts of you are no longer working together?

you feel it before you can name it. a subtle disconnect. a quiet imbalance. you look the part on the outside, but inside something feels off. you know what you should feel, but you don’t. you’re moving through life, but you’re not fully *in* it. that feeling - that sense of being slightly out of alignment with yourself - is what the continuity totem was created to reveal

why the totem exists is simple: to show you where the imbalances may be in your alignment, your congruency

it is the center of the codex. while grim’s compass maps the emotional chaos that comes after death, the continuity totem checks whether the three core parts of you - your body, mind, and soul - are still working together in sync

how the continuity totem works is through three equal triangles stacked in a specific order: body closest to death, mind as the bridge, and soul closest to time. each of these triangles consists of three questions - not commands, not statements - designed to inspire honest self-reflection and welcome evolution over time

body
· care - how do i care for my machine?
· challenge - how do i challenge my abilities?
· communicate - how well do i listen to and speak with my vessel?

mind
· public - who do i show the world?
· personal - who do i show friends and family?
· private - who do i show behind closed doors?

soul
· benevolence - when was my last act of benevolence?
· motivation - what is my greatest fear?
· legacy - how do i want to be remembered?

when the flow between the three triangles is balanced and unbroken, you are aligned. when one portion is out of alignment, the whole system is affected. misalignment can be caused by existing conflicts - but they can also be the source of new conflicts

it becomes most useful is during major life challenges, repeated patterns you can’t seem to break, or that nagging sense that something important is out of sync - even if everything looks fine from the outside

the totem does not judge
it simply shows you how congruent - or misaligned - you are in the moment

who the totem is for is anyone who has ever felt the quiet ache of “i do not feel like myself.”

why this matters is simple: most people live with some level of quiet imbalance and have never been given a clear way to see it. the continuity totem forces you to look - before death appears on your doorstep and your time runs out
